Okies!

I watched a great documentary about a mid-western band started by brothers and lead by an insanely driven frontman who still lives in his hometown and hangs out with his high school friends. Pollard and GBV? Nope. Fearless Freaks featuring the Flaming Lips. I'll watch just about any rock documentary whether or not I like the subjects but Freaks is well made with a really interesting story behind it. And the music sounds great. I haven't listened to the Lips much of late but will be breaking out The Soft Bulletin.

I am back on netflix after a four year hiatus and the music selection is much improved. My queue is loaded with docs. Let me know your thoughts on these:
Last Waltz
Don't Look Back
Storefont Hitchcock (Robyn)
Jandek on Corwood
Neil Young: Heart of Gold
Devil and Daniel Johnston
Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser
We Jam Econo: Story of the Minutemen
Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog
End of the Century: The Ramones
The Who: The Kids Are Alright
Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel
Be Here To Love Me: Townes Van Zandt
Devil and Daniel Johnston = great. The producer, Henry Rosental, employed Stacey for a time when we first moved to SF. He used to play bass in Crime and the City Solution (legendary SF punk band). Stacey and Henry continue to be friends. He gave her magic mushrooms for her birthday a few years ago. They sat in our freezer for 9 months.
Anyway...I think I left the film with less appreciation for Daniel Johnston's music but more appreciation for his place in music.
This film goes perfectly with Fearless Freaks and American Movie.
